Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor with 5G support

Next flagship phone of OnesPlus will be a 5G-ready smartphone having the newly announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor. This new processor was showcased by Qualcomm at its annual Snapdragon technology summit, Hawaii.

Samsung had also announced its plans to launch the first 5G-ready Samsung phone the next year(2019) in partnership with Verizon. This will also be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor. It's likely that it'll be the Galaxy S10 Plus variant.


The official release of OnePlus says that it will partner with EE carrier network in order to launch the 5G smartphone in the United Kingdom in 2019. In the past, OnePlus has indicated that the next flagship phone of OnePlus will have 5G support in it. Though this will not be the OnePlus 7, an entirely new series. Pete Lau, OnePlus said, “OnePlus only makes flagship smartphones, and we believe that the Snapdragon 855 is the best and only choice. We are thrilled by its powerful performance and 5G capabilities. OnePlus will continue to bring its users the best technology and the best user experience possible.”

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor is a 7nm design chipset. This is the same fabrication process as the Apple 12 Bionic chipset and Huawei’s Kirin 980 processor. The new 855 chipset comes with a more powerful AI-engine and an ISP that makes it ready for computational photography. We have seen the latter in Google and Apple also. They are employing this on their devices.


Thanks to the Snapdragon X50 modem, Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor will have a 5G support. Like OnePlus and Samsung, Xiaomi with its Mi Mix 3, Oppo, and Vivo are also expected to launch 5G flagship phones in 2019, the next year.

Reports have said that Apple will also introduce one 5G-ready phone but in 2020. It is believed to be relying on the Intel for its 5G modem considering the ongoing battle with Qualcomm.
