The Canada Science and Technology Museum in Ottawa is presenting one of the year’s most important travelling exhibitions: Leonardo da Vinci – 500 Years of Genius.
The show highlights the incredible genius of da Vinci with replicas of several of the inventions and works of art that are credited to him.
“We are delighted to bring Leonardo da Vinci – 500 Years of Genius to the Canada Science and Technology Museum,” said Lisa Leblanc, director general of the museum. This unique, enlightening, and multi-sensory exhibition celebrates the remarkable legacy of the genius inventor, artist, scientist, engineer, architect, musician (and more), whose work intersects the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics) disciplines that we champion at our museum.”
So impressive is his life’s work, that when you see the whole exhibition, you are left to ponder if it was really possible for one man to have come up with so many inventions and still have time to be a great artist.
Viewers will see replicas of early bicycles, flying machines, scuba diving equipment, emergency bridges and a variety of military inventions.
Many of the replicas are interactive, so viewers can actually use the invention themselves and see how it operates.
The exhibition includes a multimedia gallery which includes high-definition graphics and audio that tell the story of da Vinci’s life.
At the end of the gallery, viewers are presented with digital reproductions of one of da Vinci’s most famous paintings – the Mona Lisa. The painting was photographed using a specially built camera that is able to capture much more detail than conventional cameras.
Leonardo da Vinci – 500 Years of Genius continues until September 2, 2019.
